Over 100 Attend Sea Level in Sausalito Event
- Kicking off the presentations was a talk by Dr. Andrew Gunther, the Executive Director of the nonprofit Center for Ecosystem Management and Restoration. Dr. Gunther described the basic physical principles that have led every scientific academy in the world to conclude that human emissions of greenhouse gasses are altering the climate.
- Dr. Gunther was followed by sea level rise planning consultant Will Travis, who discussed the impacts that global warming will have on California and the Bay Area.
- Next up, Alex Westhoff, a planner with the Marin County Community Development Agency, discussed Sausalito's vulnerability to sea level rise. Approximately ten percent of our City will be vulnerable in the long-term, including much of the land east of Bridgeway.
- Finally, participants got to play the award-winning Game of Floods, a board game where players collaborate to develop strategies and solutions for dealing with real-life flooding scenarios that could impact a community like Sausalito.
