Alexander Mudslide Work to Continue Through Week of May 14

Post Date:05/04/2018 3:00 p.m.

The contractor for the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District began work at the site of the Alexander Avenue mudslide on Friday, May 4. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The project is expected to be completed within two weeks.

Traffic control consists of signs, cones, staged vehicles with strobes, and other measures to provide safety, buffer distance, and support for the working crews.

The mudslide area is just beyond City limits at the south end of Sausalito. For the project, bridge district contractor Hanford ARC will remove vegetation, debris, and the existing plastic covering from the slope, then install a geotechnical fabric over the entire hillside to prevent further erosion. At a future date, the bridge district will build a retaining wall and install soil nails into the hillside to more permanently stabilize the area.

Any questions about work at the mudslide site may be directed to Director of Public Affairs Priya Clemens at pclemens@goldengate.org or (415) 317-2222.
