PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/COMMUNITY SERVICES OFFICER

The Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) performs a variety of law enforcement support duties with the majority of responsibilities involving enforcement of parking rules and regulations in an assigned area while driving a parking enforcement scooter or car or walking on foot. Duties include  reporting defective street signs, pavement markings and parking meters; providing information to the public concerning city geography, location of buildings, public transit stations and stops, and city functions and offices, impounding and providing for the storage of vehicles as necessary, responding to low priority city ordinance violations, assisting with simple evidence collection as needed, assisting with report taking as necessary, and performing related work as required to assist the patrol staff.   

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidates will have a positive outlook, the ability to work independently and perform work timely, possess good customer service skills, have basic computer knowledge, exercise sound judgement and initiative, be able to operate a 2-way communication radio, be adaptable and able to occasionally work under stressful or difficult conditions, be comfortable working in inclement weather conditions at all hours of the day and night, including on weekends and holidays, and able to interact comfortably and effectively with a diverse population of individuals from all socioeconomic backgrounds.

Cafeteria Benefit Plan:  The City offers a healthy cafeteria benefit program including choices among plan options for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short and long-term disability.

Retirement:  The City is a part of the CalPERS retirement plan and does not contribute to Social Security. Classic employees – 2% @ 55 formula, with a 2% COLA, 3-year final average compensation, and survivor continuance plan.  In addition, the employee pays .14% of the employer contribution as a cost share.   PEPRA employees – hired after 1/1/13 or Classic employee with a six (6) month break in service are eligible for a 2% @ 62 formula, highest 3-year average compensation. 

Leave:  Employees earn 120 hours of vacation and 96 hours of sick leave per year.

Union Membership:  This position is non-exempt and is represented by the Sausalito Police Association.

Holidays: 10 authorized holidays per year.

Education/Wellness:  $1,000 of $2,000 educational incentive can be used for approved wellness, including biking/walking gear. Wellness benefits are taxable.

Uniform Allowance:  $750 per year.

Additional Incentive Pay:  

2.5% - 5% - Bilingual Pay

1.5% - 6% Longevity Pay

$600 gym reimbursement
