Council Approves Plan to Renovate Athletic Facilities at MLK Park

Post Date:01/26/2018 2:30 PM
On January 23, the Sausalito City Council approved a preliminary plan to renovate the outdoor athletic facilities at MLK Park. The renovations will include:
  • Major repairs to the five tennis courts. Repairs are expected to include a complete resurfacing of the courts, new fencing, and the installation of wind screens.
  • Improvements to the athletic field. The plan calls for grading, improved drainage, and a new irrigation system. The track would be replaced by a walking path that goes around the entire field. Public meetings will be held to discuss the design, as well as the possibility of adding adult exercise equipment to the plan.
  • Repairs to the basketball courts. The plan calls for the reconfiguration of the area to include two pickleball courts and two basketball courts, along with new fencing and surfacing.

City staff will return to the Council with funding requests for each phase of the project, the first of which will be repairs to the tennis courts. Funds for the work will come from the 2016 Certificates of Participation. If you have any questions about the plans for MLK Park, or would like to be notified of future public meetings, please contact Parks and Recreation Director Mike Langford at (415) 289-4126 or mlangford@sausalito.gov.
