7,500 Lbs. of E-Waste Collected at Annual Recycling Event

The City of Sausalito Sustainability Commission, Bay Cities Refuse Service, and Conservation Corps North Bay sponsored their eighth annual e-waste collection event on Saturday, January 27, in the City Hall parking lot. During the event, 190 local residents dropped off a total of 7,527 lbs. of damaged and obsolete electronics.

E-waste collected included:
  • 3,117 lbs. of mixed waste
  • 891 lbs. of flat screens
  • 810 lbs. of computer towers
  • 691 lbs. of household waste
  • 262 lbs. of cables and wires
  • 260 lbs. of laptops
  • 229 lbs. of power source ballast
  • 13 lbs. of hard drives
  • 10 lbs. of cell phones
  • 7 lbs. of cameras
  • 5 lbs. of tablets
  • 3 lbs. of circuit boards
The e-waste collected on January 27 will be shredded and mechanically separated into the primary commodities of steel, aluminum, copper, and plastic for use in the manufacture of new products. No e-waste will go to landfill or be exported in e-waste form.

If you missed this year's e-waste collection event, you can bring your old electronics to the Marin Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 565 Jacoby Street in San Rafael. Hours for residential drop-off are Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The facility also accepts other types of household hazardous waste, including motor oil, paint, propane cylinders, batteries, and light bulbs.
