Wildfire Preparedness Community Meeting and Survey
The recent fires in the North Bay have caused many Sausalito residents to ask what more can be done to reduce the dangers posed by wildland fire. To address community concerns, the Southern Marin Fire Protection District will present Ready Sausalito, a neighborhood meeting at the Bay Model on Saturday, April 14 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. The Bay Model is located at 2100 Bridgeway in Sausalito's Marinship district.
In conjunction with the Ready Sausalito event, the City Council has directed Southern Marin Fire to conduct a community survey. This brief survey consists of eight questions about the steps that the City and the fire district should take to reduce the risk of wildland fire. Questions include:
- Do you think the City of Sausalito and the Southern Marin Fire Protection District should do more to reduce the risk of wildland fire?
- Would you support a new City of Sausalito ordinance prohibiting specific types of flammable plants on public and private land?
- Would you support a new City of Sausalito ordinance that requires new construction and remodeling projects to use materials and techniques proven to reduce the risks from fire?
- Would you support City of Sausalito-funded "chipper days" to provide a disposal process for brush that has been cleared from residential property?
The survey will be open through Sunday, May 13. The findings from the survey will be presented at a future meeting of the Sausalito City Council and will also be available on the City website.
