Start Smart for New Drivers and Their Parents

Post Date:04/13/2018 12:30 PM

Everyone wants to make Marin County a safe driving environment for today's drivers and the future drivers of tomorrow. The police departments in the county recognize that parents who are preparing their children to drive, as well as the new drivers themselves, may not understand all of the legal requirements of this important milestone.

At 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, the Tiburon Police Department and the Belvedere Police Department, in partnership with the California Highway Patrol, will present Start Smart, a program funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety for prospective underage drivers and the parents of prospective or newly licensed or permitted underage drivers. Sausalito parents and children are encouraged to attend this event, which will be held at Tiburon Town Hall, 1505 Tiburon Boulevard.

The presentation will include information on:
  • The current parental responsibilities for driver training and education of prospective underage drivers
  • The legal limitations on the driving privileges of underage drivers
  • The consequences of violations for underage drivers
Please consider attending if you are the parent of an underage driver or of a child who is about to become permitted or licensed as an underage driver. The program will last approximately one hour. To RSVP, call Laurie Nilsen of the Tiburon Police Department at (415) 789-2805.
