Lilly Whalen Appointed as Community Development Director
Sausalito City Manager Adam Politzer has appointed Lilly Whalen as the City's new Community Development Director. The appointment removes the "interim" from a job title that Lilly has held since July 2018. As Community Development Director, Lilly will manage an eight-person department that oversees private and public building projects in the City in accordance with the General Plan, the Municipal Code, the Zoning Ordinance, and state and local construction codes.
Lilly has been employed by the City of Sausalito in positions of increasing responsibility since 2008, when she joined the City as an Assistant Planner. Since that time, she has served as Associate Planner, Administrative Analyst, and most recently in the dual role of City Clerk and Assistant City Manager.
During her time in Sausalito, Lilly has been the point person for a number of high-profile initiatives in the City, including the Housing Element Update, the ADU amnesty program, multi-family zoning ordinance regulations, and the City's response to the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District's plans for a new Sausalito ferry landing.
Lilly holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from UC Berkeley and a Master of Science in City and Regional Planning from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She was born and raised in Northern California and enjoys live theater, reading, cooking, and spending time with her husband and their two-year-old daughter.
