Members of the Sausalito City Council joined City staff on the morning of Friday, November 9 for a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of the
MLK Athletic Field Improvement Project. Also in attendance were former Sausalito resident C.D. Madsen and employees of project contractor Maggiora & Ghilotti. Madsen was a heavy equipment operator during World War II, had his own construction business after the war, and was a partner with Maggiora & Ghilotti prior to retiring.
When complete, the new athletic field will feature:
- Improved drainage
- New grass
- A new irrigation system
- A new soccer pitch
- A new softball field
- A concrete pad for an outdoor gym
- An asphalt path around the perimeter of the field
If work proceeds without complications, the athletic field will reopen for public use in summer 2019. During construction, the field will be fenced off to the public.
Any questions about the MLK Athletic Field Improvement Project may be directed to Senior Civil Engineer Andrew Davidson at adavidson@sausalito.gov or (415) 289-4180.
