The role of the Planning Commission is to review applications for design review and land use entitlements, as set forth in planning and zoning laws of the City and the state, and perform other such duties as specified in the Sausalito Municipal Code.

Previous meeting. The following actions were taken at the meeting of the Planning Commission on November 7:
  • Continued to the December 5 Planning Commission meeting a request for a design review permit, subject to heightened design review, to remodel and construct a two-story western addition, an addition, and a covered deck for the existing single-family residence at 416 Napa Street, along with a nonconformity permit to rebuild a single-car garage over the existing parking area and an encroachment agreement for garage, driveway, utilities, walls, landscaping, and stairs located in the public right-of-way.
  • Approved a sign permit to install four wall signs and three window signs for the purpose of business and building identification at the Mariner's Landing commercial property at 2656 Bridgeway.
  • Approved a tree removal permit to remove one protected coast live oak tree at 33 Sunshine Avenue.
  • Continued to the December 5 Planning Commission meeting a reconsideration of Zoning Ordinance amendments to table 10.22-1 and section 10.44.080 of Title 10 to update Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) regulations to provide consistency with state law and for a limited number of clarification amendments.
  • Continued to the December 5 Planning Commission meeting a reconsideration of Zoning Ordinance amendments to table 10.22-1 of Title 10 and the addition of a new section 10.44.085 of the Sausalito Municipal Code to allow for the permitting of Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (JADU) in residential neighborhoods. JADUs are contained within an existing dwelling, allow for kitchenettes and shared bathroom facilities, and provide opportunities for affordable, multi-generational, and senior housing.
Upcoming meeting. There will be a meeting of the Planning Commission in the Council Chambers of City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5. The following items are on the agenda:
  • Consider a request for a design review permit, subject to heightened design review, to remodel and construct a two-story western addition, an addition, and a covered deck for the existing single-family residence at 416 Napa Street, along with a nonconformity permit to rebuild a single-car garage over the existing parking area and an encroachment agreement for garage, driveway, utilities, walls, landscaping, and stairs located in the public right-of-way. This item was continued from the Planning Commission's November 7 hearing.
  • Consider a recommendation on Zoning Ordinance amendments related to Accessory Dwelling Units and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units to add Sausalito Municipal Code section 10.44.085 and to amend Sausalito Municipal Code section 10.44.080, section 10.88.040, and table 10.22-1. The purpose of these Zoning Ordinance amendments are to add Junior Accessory Dwelling Unit regulations, bring the City's code into compliance with recent changes to state law, and establish an amnesty period for existing unpermitted Junior Accessory Dwelling Units and Accessory Dwelling Units.
