City Welcomes David Bracken as Interim Director of Public Works
David Bracken has joined the City of Sausalito staff as the Interim Director of Public Works and City Engineer while a search is underway to replace Jonathon Goldman, who retired from the City on January 25, 2019.
David is a professional Civil Engineer licensed in the state of California. He was an employee of the Town of Corte Madera from 2004 to 2017, where he served as the Town Manager, Town Engineer, and Director of Public Works. Previously, he was the founder and principal of the civil engineering and land surveying firm of Bracken & Keane from 1989 to 2004.
David was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He moved to the Bay Area in 1971 to attend the University of San Francisco. Although he received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from USF in 1973, David accepted a job soon after graduation doing construction for Fritz Warren, who was building two homes on Wolfback Ridge in Sausalito. This work led to a position as a professional carpenter building homes at various locations in Marin County. David returned to school in the late 1970s to study structural engineering at Oregon State University, and in 1981 was awarded a bachelor of science degree.
David resides in Mill Valley in a home he designed and built for himself in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He loves animals and outdoor activities, and he is especially passionate about skiing and windsurfing. Occasionally, he will still take on a construction project so as not to lose the skills that were so much a part of his earlier life.
