Be Prepared for the Next Natural Disaster

Post Date:04/05/2019 4:20 PM

Natural disasters are a fact of life in Northern California. Whether it's a mudslide, earthquake, wildfire, or something else, being prepared can help you, your loved ones, and your neighbors get through the next disaster. The materials below have been assembled by the City of Sausalito's Community Safety/Disaster Preparedness Committee to help you get ready.
  • Wildfire Evacuation Checklist: Explains the different types of evacuation orders and provides a checklist of things to do if an evacuation is expected and time allows
  • Short Notice to Evacuate: Provides a list of items to gather in the event of a 5-minute, 15-minute, or 1-hour notice of evacuation
  • Contents of a Go Bag: Lists items found in a sample "Go Bag" to have on hand in case you need to make an immediate evacuation; many people buy a pre-prepared backpack, others prepare their own custom bag
You and your family should know two exits from your place of residence. Your front door may be blocked. Your garage door may be blocked or without electricity. Be prepared to walk if necessary.

Firefighters from the Southern Marin Fire Protection District are available to come to your neighborhood to assess its preparedness. To schedule a visit, just organize your neighbors and call the Fire Prevention Bureau at (415) 380-1120.

Any questions about disaster preparedness in Sausalito or the Community Safety/Disaster Preparedness Committee may be directed to Lt. Bill Fraass of the Sausalito Police Department at or (415) 289-4170.
