City Council to Receive Update on Mudslide Cleanup

Post Date:05/17/2019 4:05 PM

The City of Sausalito consultant working on an initial recovery strategy for the February 14 mudslide is scheduled to present a status update to the City Council at its meeting on Tuesday, May 28. The presentation by Harris & Associates will review the debris removal process and provide an updated estimate of a project timeline. At the time a contract was signed on April 8, the Harris & Associates estimate was that debris removal in the mudslide area would begin in July 2019 and conclude in September 2019.

Crescent Avenue remains closed between 47 Crescent and Main Street due to the large debris pile deposited at the base of the mudslide. Cleanup of the debris pile and the debris field on the hillside is complicated by the presence of toxic material, the removal of which is subject to strict federal regulations. If the City of Sausalito fails to comply with these regulations, it risks losing eligibility for disaster relief funds to offset the significant cost of the removal process.
