Dunphy Park Opening Dates Delayed to August and October

Post Date:06/21/2019 3:05 PM

Delays related to underground utilities have pushed back opening dates for Dunphy Park, but the end is in sight for an improvement project that began in December 2018. The new bocce courts, shoreline paths, restrooms, and parking lot are now expected to open sometime in August 2019. The lawn area will need time for the new grass to become established and is now expected to become available for use in October 2019.

Here are other improvements to watch for in the coming days and weeks:
  • The new prefabricated restroom building structure should be completed by June 25, with interior finishes added in early July.
  • Paving of the new parking lot is expected to take place on July 1. If possible, the lot will be made temporarily available for parking during the City of Sausalito's 4th of July Festivities.
  • The installation of irrigation facilities and the planting of new trees and shrubs will be ongoing through the month of July. Approximately 50 trees and shrubs of varying sizes and species will be planted.
  • Grass hydroseeding will take place in August. The grass will take two to three months to establish itself, during which time the lawn area of the park will remain fenced off.
The fence around the lawn area will come down and a grand opening celebration for Dunphy Park will be held when the lawn is ready for heavy use, most likely in October 2019. Keep an eye on Sausalito Currents and the City website for the date of the celebration.
