Update on Ferry Landing Landside Improvements

Post Date:06/21/2019 3:00 PM

On June 7, 2019, the City of Sausalito issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Planning and Design Services for the Sausalito Ferry Landside Improvements Project. The RFP invites qualified proposers to submit a response to the request for one or both scopes of work:
  • Package A: visioning and schematic design for the project
  • Package B: visioning and a full design for the project
The City will review the responses to the RFP and award an agreement to perform the work on the project under one of these two approaches.

When completed, the landside improvements will enhance pedestrian spaces for residents and visitors, including improved passenger staging and ticket vending areas. The project will also complement improvements to the adjacent waterside facilities by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District.

The tentative timetable for landside improvements to the ferry landing is as follows:
  • Award of contract for planning and design services: Fall 2019
  • Public workshops on landside designs: Winter 2019-20
  • Start of construction: Fall 2020
  • Completion of construction: Summer 2021
The latest schedule from the bridge district for waterside improvements to the ferry landing is as follows:
  • Advertise for construction: December 2019
  • Award construction contract: March 2020
  • Completion of construction: December 2022
The previous schedule from the bridge district, from November 2018, called for construction to be completed by December 2021.

Funding for the landside project consists of $2 million in Federal Transit Administration funds, $400,000 from the bridge district, and $100,000 in matching funds from the City of Sausalito. The City issued the RFP on June 7 in response to direction from the bridge district that the City's original selection of a visioning and design team failed to comply with Federal Transit Administration requirements, and that funds expended by the City thus far would not be allowed to count towards the City's $100,000 match for the project.
