City Releases RFP for Land Economics Study

Post Date:09/06/2019 3:30 PM

On August 30, the City of Sausalito released a request for proposal (RFP) for a land economics study focusing on the City's primary business districts: the downtown retail area, Caledonia Street, and the Marinship. Interested firms have until September 27 to submit a response.

The land economics study is one component of a larger economic development program currently underway in Sausalito at the direction of the City Council. The goals of the economic development program are the following:
  • Promote a healthy business climate
  • Facilitate communication between the City and local businesses
  • Retain and attract businesses to the City
  • Create jobs and provide services to the community
  • Provide revenue to fund City services
A successful economic development program can bring an improved mix of desired businesses to the community and create and retain jobs and services.

When completed, the land economics study will identify the potential of each of the primary business districts over the next 20 years. This will include a look at how the areas will evolve, what uses will be supported by market forces, and what strategies the City can pursue to increase the success of existing and future businesses in Sausalito.

The City Council will consider the results of the land economics study in the creation of an economic development strategic plan. The results are also likely to be considered when studying the City's current zoning and land use designations and other policies which may impact the viability of current and future potential business land uses. The report may also be used as input to the General Plan Update process now underway.

Any questions about the land economics study or the economic development program in Sausalito may be directed to Yulia Carter, Assistant City Manager and Administrative Services Director, at ycarter@sausalito.gov or (415) 289-4105.
