Friday Evening Programs at the Sausalito Library

The Sausalito Public Library will present more than forty adult programs during the fall of 2019, including Thursday evening speakers, mobile device workshops, Metropolitan Opera previews, and museum docent lectures. The biggest events take place on Friday evenings inside the library, which has a giant presentation screen and room for a hundred chairs. This fall, there are eight Friday evening programs between September 13 and November 8.

Friday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m.
The Art of Dying Well
Bestselling local author Katy Butler will discuss her new handbook of preparations — practical, communal, physical, and spiritual — to help you make the most of your remaining time, be it months, years, or decades.

Friday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m.
Fire in Sausalito!
Past and present Sausalito firefighters will share reminiscences and tips on fire prevention in this panel discussion presented by the Sausalito Historical Society, to be followed by a reception for a new exhibit on the topic.

Friday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m.
Bogart and Bacall: A True Love Hollywood Romance
Peter Robinson of KALW returns to the Sausalito Library for a look at the love affair of Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart, featuring clips from their classic noir films of the 1940s. 

Friday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m.
The Bolinas-Fairfax Road
Local author and historian Brian Crawford will present an illustrated history of the Bolinas-Fairfax Road. The scenic road has a long and fascinating history intimately tied to the history of Marin County.

Friday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m.
Scandals and Mysteries in Hollywood History, Part II
Jan Wahl will be back with more juicy stories about Hollywood stars, including Hedy Lamarr, Sophia Loren, Kirk Douglas, and Burt Lancaster. Each story will be accompanied by a film clip of the star in a famous role.

Friday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m.
Heath Ceramics: The Making of a California Classic
Join us for a screening of a new public television documentary about Edith Heath and Sausalito's own Heath Ceramics, followed by a question and answer period with Heath's new owners, Robin Petravic and Catherine Bailey.

Friday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m.
Samantha Paris: Finding the Bunny
The founder of Sausalito-based Voicetrax, the largest voice-over school in the nation, will share stories from her recent memoir, which has been optioned by Warner Brothers for development into a television series.

Friday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m.
Chasing Ships: An Inspector's Perspective
Captain Craig Thomas conducts ship inspections in the San Francisco Bay for vessels carrying the flags of Malta, the Marshall Islands, Vanuatu, and Liberia. Join Craig for a unique perspective on ship operations in the Bay Area.
