The Sustainability Commission advises the City Council on waste management, recycling, and sea level rise. The commission also plans and conducts public education programs related to sustainability.

Previous Meeting. The Sustainability Commission held a regular meeting on August 8. The meeting was the first for new commissioner Lauren Wylie and alternate Taylor Orr. Topics on the agenda included efforts to reduce the amount of material that goes in the solid waste stream at the Sausalito Art Festival, the General Plan Update, and the upcoming Marinship Workshop at the Spinnaker Restaurant on September 7. The commission also received a report on sustainable landscaping from City of Sausalito landscaper Oscar Lucario, who discussed his work at various City parks. Oscar's presentation can be seen on the City of Sausalito YouTube channel.

Upcoming meeting. The next Sustainability Commission meeting will be held on Thursday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room. The agenda includes a guest speaker from the Transportation Authority of Marin talking about grants for electric vehicle chargers, the recently passed ban on single-use plastics, a follow-up on the Sausalito Art Festival, and the upcoming Chili Cook-off.
