Police Make Arrest for Smash-and-Grab Auto Burglary

Post Date:11/15/2019 2:20 PM

At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, Police Detective Davin Rose was conducting surveillance in Municipal Parking Lot 1 due to recent automobile burglaries. Detective Rose observed a silver Nissan sedan occupied by three adults enter the parking lot and pull into a parking space. All three adults then exited the Nissan and appeared to be casing cars.

While watching the suspects, Detective Rose witnessed them commit a window-smash burglary of a locked and unoccupied parked vehicle. A backpack was stolen from the vehicle. When Detective Rose pulled his unmarked police vehicle up to the suspects and attempted to make contact with them, the suspects jumped back into the Nissan and fled.

With the assistance of the Marin County Sheriff's Office, the Mill Valley Police Department, and the Tiburon Police Department, Sausalito police officers searched for the Nissan and located it unoccupied in the area of Glen Drive at Glen Court. Officers contacted several neighbors and learned that the occupants of the Nissan ran from the vehicle in different directions. The stolen backpack was located next to the Nissan.

Officers conducted a comprehensive search of the area for the suspects. Jinjoe Kellom, a 21 year-old resident of Vallejo who matched the description of the individual who broke the window of the victim vehicle, was contacted in the area of Caledonia Street at Litho Street at approximately 5:31 p.m. Kellom was identified as one of the participants in the crime and was arrested for burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, failure to obey a peace officer, and possession of burglary tools. He was subsequently booked into the Marin County Jail.
