Dispose of electronic waste the right way! The City of Sausalito Sustainability Commission, Bay Cities Refuse Service, and Conservation Corps North Bay are sponsoring their ninth annual E-Waste Collection Event on Saturday, January 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the City Hall parking lot off of Bee Street. Residents and businesses are invited to drop off obsolete and broken electronics at the event.

The following types of e-waste will be collected, free of charge:
  • Computers
  • Printers
  • Copiers
  • Scanners
  • Fax machines
  • Networking equipment
  • Printed circuit boards
  • Telephones
  • Cellular phones
  • Stereos
  • Televisions
  • Flat screens
  • DVD players
  • Microwaves
  • Other consumer electronics
Please note that light bulbs, batteries, and household electronics (toasters, hair dryers, coffee makers, lamps, etc.) will not be accepted at the e-waste event. There is a receptacle for battery recycling in the main hallway of Sausalito City Hall at 420 Litho Street.

E-waste may also be brought to the Marin Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 565 Jacoby Street in San Rafael. Hours for residential drop-off are Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The facility also accepts many other types of household hazardous waste, including motor oil, paint, propane cylinders, batteries, and light bulbs.

The e-waste collected on January 25 will be shredded and mechanically separated into the primary commodities of steel, aluminum, copper, and plastic for use in the manufacture of new products. No e-waste will go to landfill or be exported in e-waste form. At last year's collection event, approximately 7,500 lbs. of e-waste was recycled and kept out of landfill.
