Trees Planted at MLK Park and Caledonia Street

Post Date:02/21/2020 3:10 PM

Thanks to a collaboration between local nonprofit Sausalito Beautiful and the City of Sausalito, 18 new trees were recently planted at MLK Park and along Caledonia Street.

At MLK Park, a team of City landscapers planted seven paperbark tea trees on the parking lot side of the path that borders the athletic field. Three willow trees were also planted along the northeast border to screen the park from adjacent businesses. The new trees are in addition to more than 90 trees and bushes that were planted by volunteers in October 2019.

City contractor GSI Landscaping has planted eight water gum trees along Caledonia Street between Napa and Bee streets. The work required the cutting of new tree wells in the pavement. Six new trees line Caledonia on the landward side of the block, and two trees are located near the Bee Street corner on the water side.

City staff will ensure that the new trees at MLK Park and along Caledonia Street are watered and cared for until they are fully established.

For more information about tree planting projects in Sausalito, please contact Public Works Division Manager Loren Umbertis at lumbertis@sausalito.gov or (415) 289-4113.
