Alert Marin and Nixle are two essential notification tools that will be used to alert and advise Sausalito residents in the event of an evacuation due to wildfire.
Alert Marin is operated by the Marin County Sheriff's Office. During an approaching wildfire, Alert Marin will be used to provide notice by voice phone call, text, email, or app when an evacuation order is issued and an action must be taken at a specific address. Landline numbers that are not VOIP (voice over internet protocol) phones will automatically receive phone alerts from Alert Marin, but residents need to sign up for Alert Marin to receive alerts on their mobile devices.
Nixle is used by police and fire agencies when information is needed within a specific zip code, such as public safety announcements related to road closures, shelters, and services. To sign up for Nixle messages, visit the Nixle website or text your zip code to 888-777.
Sausalito residents are encouraged to sign up for both services to maximize the amount of information they will receive during an emergency, and as a backup in case one service should fail.
