Post Date:09/11/2020 8:50 PM Dunphy Park reopened to the public on September 11, marking the substantial completion of an improvement project that began in December 2018. Everyone is encouraged to enjoy the new lawn area, the shoreline path, and the bocce courts, but please check air quality conditions before venturing outdoors.
Storm fencing along the outer perimeter will be in place until it can be removed by a contractor next week. For now, public access to the park is via the shoreline path with entry points at the foot of Litho Street and adjacent to the new permanent restrooms.
Remaining work to be done at the park includes completing the new volleyball court and planting additional shrubs and trees.
Public Works Division Manager Loren Umbertis says this was the most complex project he has been involved in during his nine-year tenure with the City. Challenges included the discovery of Native American cultural resources, the unplanned removal of 3,300 cubic yards of soil (see article below), and coordination with multiple regional and national regulatory agencies.
Hours at Dunphy Park are sunrise to sunset. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing when in the proximity of those outside of your household.
