Post Date:02/12/2021 8:00 PMSausalito this week took steps to advance and implement two resolutions that the City Council passed on February 5 in response to the tent encampment at Dunphy Park.
The first resolution affirms the City's commitment to work with local and regional partners to explore every opportunity to provide shelter and care to those without a home and to treat all individuals experiencing homelessness with compassion and dignity. In furtherance of this resolution, the City this week:
Joined a group convened by Marin County Health and Human Services that is working to identify appropriate housing options for occupants of encampments.
Began applying for grant funding under two state programs designed to protect Californians experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Continued talking with local and regional government agencies and officials, nonprofit organizations, and others to identify housing options and social services for encampment occupants.
The second resolution closes certain City property, including Dunphy Park, to camping and storage of personal property and designates a specific area of Marinship Park as a temporary, transitional overnight camping location for individuals who have no option of sleeping indoors. To implement this resolution, City staff this week:
Posted a Notice to Vacate at Dunphy Park advising that the Department of Public Works will clean and close the site no earlier than 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, conditioned upon the availability of storage at Marinship Park.
Began preparing an area of Marinship Park for legal overnight camping for individuals who have no option of sleeping indoors.
Secured storage facilities for installation at Marinship Park.
