A hearing on a petition for a temporary restraining order to stop the City of Sausalito from relocating the occupants of the Dunphy Park encampment to a nearby alternate site has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 23, at 1:30 p.m. in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The hearing will be before Judge Edward M. Chen.

The petition was filed late Tuesday by the Sausalito/Marin County Chapter of the California Homeless Union and 10 individuals, naming as defendants the City of Sausalito, Mayor Jill James Hoffman, Police Chief John Rohrbacher, Interim City Manager Marcia Raines, and Department of Public Works Supervisor Kent Basso. On Wednesday, the City filed its opposition to the plaintiffs' application.

The action follows a resolution passed by the City Council on February 5 which closed certain City property, including Dunphy Park, to camping and storage of personal property and designated an area within City-owned Marinship Park as a temporary, transitional overnight camping location for individuals who have no option of sleeping indoors.

In alignment with a second resolution passed by the City Council on February 5, Sausalito continues to meet with local and regional governmental agencies and officials, as well as nonprofit organizations, to identify alternate and appropriate housing for the Dunphy Park occupants.
