Coloma Pump Station Replacement Project to Begin March 1

Post Date:02/26/2021 4:30 PM

The Sausalito-Marin City Sanitary District is scheduled to begin construction of the Coloma Pump Station Replacement Project on March 1. The project includes demolition of two existing underground pump stations and construction of a new pump station on the southwest corner of the intersection of Bridgeway and Coloma Street.

The new pump station will improve the safety and reliability of the sewer system for decades to come. Features will include underground electrical controls and installation of an emergency standby generator. It will also have increased capacity and backup systems to meet needs during storms when flow can increase five-fold. Completion of the project is anticipated by June 2022, and all customers will continue to receive uninterrupted sewer service throughout the entire project.

During construction, a portion of the walking path on Bridgeway near Coloma Street will be closed as a safety precaution.

Lane shifts and lane closures on Bridgeway will be regular occurrences during work hours. Please watch for additional pedestrian traffic crossing Bridgeway and for bicycles sharing the Bridgeway travel lanes when the bike lane is closed. Coloma Street will remain open to traffic during most of the project but will be closed for short periods to install underground equipment such as pipes and manholes.

There will also be periods of noise during some phases of construction. However, these occurrences will be restricted to normal work hours and will be kept to a minimum.

More information about the Sausalito-Marin City Sanitary District and its years-long upgrade of the entire wastewater system can be found on the district website. Area residents are also encouraged to sign up for the district's electronic newsletter.
