Did you know that by creating an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) or Junior Accessory Dwelling Unit (JADU) at your home, you could help expand the supply of
affordable housing in Marin and ease our
homeless crisis?
The
Marin Housing Authority is currently offering loans to create and/or legalize second units, whether ADUs or JADUs, for rent to low-income households through the
Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8). Landlords are able to conduct tenant screening and enter into a lease with the tenant and into a
Housing Assistant Payment Contract with Marin Housing.
Additionally, Marin County is able to provide housing subsidies to recently homeless individuals and families as part of its Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) program. RRH utilizes case managers and housing locators to assist people in a fast, compassionate, and cost-effective way to address their housing crisis.
You can learn more about these programs at a virtual workshop hosted by the City of Sausalito at 5:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, March 24. The workshop will be presented by representatives from the Marin Housing Authority, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and Opening Doors Marin. To participate, please follow the
Zoom link or dial 1-669-900-6833 and enter the meeting ID of 862 8080 9161.
In addition to immediate opportunities for local landlords, the presenters will also discuss
Project Homekey. In 2020, Project Homekey brought nearly $10 million of state funding to Marin for the acquisition of local hotels, motels, and commercial sites for conversion to permanent supportive housing. Funding for Project Homekey 2021 is expected to be released soon.
