Storm Brings Power Outages and Flooding to Sausalito

Post Date:10/24/2021 3:30 PM

The intensity of the current storm has caused damage across Sausalito, taking down trees and power lines and displacing residents of the tent encampment in Marinship Park. As of 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, power outages were affecting approximately 800 residences. A state of emergency has been declared by the City.

Mayor Jill Hoffman reports that the police and public works staff are responding to sites across Sausalito, as is Pacific Gas & Electric. The City has requested that Marin County assist by setting up an emergency shelter in Southern Marin for those who have been displaced from the encampment. City officials will assess conditions at the encampment site this afternoon with Marin County Supervisor Stephanie Moulton-Peters and other county representatives.

The Sausalito Library at 420 Litho Street will remain open until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday or until power is restored to neighborhoods without power, whichever comes sooner. The library is operating under generator power and is currently able to provide Wi-Fi internet access.

Updates on the storm and the City response will be posted to sausalito.gov/news.

The City began taking steps three days ago to help the encampment prepare for the storm, including providing sleeping bags and bringing in gravel to fill low-lying areas and wooden pallets to elevate tents. Approximately 40 people have been camping at Marinship Park.
