Update on the Tent Encampment at Marinship Park

Tent Encampment
The encampment at Marinship Park on Thursday, March 3

The tent encampment on the tennis courts at Marinship Park currently has approximately 28 residents on platforms provided by the City. Since its relocation from the lawn and parking lot areas of the park on February 10, the encampment has generated few calls for service to the Sausalito Police.

Given the high request for permanent supportive housing in Marin County and the lack of County beds to accommodate everyone, the City of Sausalito is working diligently with the County and other government agencies, along with nonprofits and grant-making organizations, to secure transitional housing for encampment residents as an alternative to the encampment.

In the meantime, we ask that community members refrain from bringing donations of furniture to the encampment so that we can keep the area clean and clear of clutter. Instead, we encourage drop-offs of donated items to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or other organizations that are equipped to collect and distribute these materials.

The City's policy is to provide a safe, humane, and compassionate experience for the people who are waiting to get housing. As we manage the temporary encampment and work toward returning it to a public space, the City has implemented a code of conduct to maintain safety.

Any questions or concerns about the encampment may be directed to City Manager Chris Zapata at czapata@sausalito.gov or (415) 289-4166.
