Truck Collides with Utility Pole, Hydrant on Coloma Street
Post Date:08/25/2023 3:00 PMAt approximately 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, the driver of a white Toyota pickup truck traveling eastbound on Coloma Street lost control and struck a utility pole in the vicinity of 440 Coloma.
After dislodging the pole, the truck continued across both lanes of the street and over the opposite curb, where it decapitated a fire hydrant, clipped the side of an adjacent building, and came to a stop after sideswiping four parked vehicles.
Personnel from the Sausalito Police Department, Southern Marin Fire, PG&E, Sausalito Public Works, and the Marin Municipal Water District responded to the scene of the crash.
The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck was not seriously injured. No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
In the immediate aftermath, PG&E shut off power to approximately 3,000 customers at the north end of Sausalito, in the floating homes community, and in Marin City. Power was incrementally reactivated in the ensuing hours, with full restoration of electric service to all customers by 1:30 a.m. on August 24.
The geyser of water from the damaged hydrant caused minor flooding to nearby businesses. Water service was temporarily shut off in the area until the rupture could be capped by water district personnel.
