City Council Advances Downtown Business Improvement District

Post Date:03/08/2024 2:50 PM
At its meeting on March 5, the City Council endorsed a draft plan to create a Property Business Improvement District (PBID) to enhance the beauty of downtown Sausalito and encourage visitors to downtown businesses.

Final approval of the PBID will require a majority vote of commercial property owners in the downtown area according to the assessed value of their property. If approved, approximately $250,000 per year over the next five years would be raised from the property owners to be used for special events, marketing and promotion, and beautification projects for the downtown area.

In endorsing the Draft Management District Plan with minor modifications, the Council directed City Manager Chris Zapata to begin a petition process to garner enough support from downtown property owners to initiate a formal ballot. The Council also authorized Zapata to sign the petition based on City-owned downtown properties, exercising up to 40% of the City's total voting power.
