Oscar Lucario of the Department of Public Works was honored with a 2023 Marin County Integrated Pest Management Award in a ceremony at the Marin Civic Center on Friday, April 26.
One of two recipients of this year's award, Lucario was recognized for — among other things — his use of native plants to eliminate the need for pesticides and promote pollination at City parks and medians.
Lucario has served the City of Sausalito as a landscape worker for six years and is well known around town for his helpfulness answering questions from residents while going about his duties.
A graduate of Sonoma State University with a degree in conservation restoration, Lucario owned a landscaping business with his father before coming to work for the City of Sausalito.
"Oscar is committed to improving landscaping efforts not only here in Sausalito but throughout Marin County. His dedication is inspirational to those who interact with him on all levels," says Director of Public Works Kevin McGowan.
The Integrated Pest Management Commission, which bestowed the award, oversees implementation of the county's pest management initiatives and makes recommendations to the county's IPM coordinator and the Board of Supervisors.
