The City's fiscal year 2024-25 budget, a sewer rate increase, City Council elections in November, and the prospective formation of a downtown business improvement district are among the topics on the agenda for the regular meeting of the
City Council at 7:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, June 4.
The hybrid-format meeting will be conducted in the City Hall Council Chambers and via Zoom. It will also be
broadcast live on the City website.
The following business and public hearing items appear on the
meeting agenda:
- Item 4A - Public Hearing on Sewer Rates
Sausalito's sewer system is more than 85 years old and requires constant upgrades to minimize environmental impacts. Now that a 45-day noticing period has been reached, the Council may adopt proposed 5% annual increases through fiscal year 2026-27 if it does not receive a majority protest in excess of 50% of the number of parcels receiving service.
- Item 5A - Business Improvement District
The Council will consider initiating a ballot process to form a Property Business Improvement District (PBID) in downtown Sausalito. Final approval requires a majority vote of downtown commercial property owners according to assessed value. If approved, approximately $250,000 per year over five years would be raised from property owners for special events, marketing, and beautification projects.
- Item 5B - Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Review
For item 5B, the Council will review City Manager Chris Zapata's recommended fiscal year 2024-25 budget and provide direction regarding any modifications in advance of formal adoption by June 30 in accordance with State of California legal requirements.
- Item 5C - Economic Development Advisory Committee
The Council will consider a revision to the municipal code to specifically allow non-residents to serve on the Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) but otherwise preserve the City's residency requirements for Council-appointed boards, committees, and commissions.
As item 3B on the consent calendar, the Council will also consider a resolution calling for the
election of three councilmembers to be held as part of the
General Municipal Election on November 5, 2024.
