A project to secure the slope above the North Street Steps began on May 22 and is expected to continue into the fall of 2024.

The steps have been intermittently closed since 2019 due to repeated mudslides originating on the slope.

The project consists of installing more than a hundred ground anchors to hold wire mesh and an erosion blanket in place. The slope will then be seeded with native plants.

The steps will remain closed to the public while construction is underway. The sidewalk in front of the steps and a portion of Tiffany Park will also be closed for public safety.

Pedestrians planning a walk along Bridgeway between Richardson and Princess streets should use the sidewalk on the Bay side of Bridgeway. Please cross at marked crosswalks.
