The Bay Area was under a
tsunami warning on Thursday, December 5 after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake occurred at 10:44 a.m. off the coast of Humboldt County.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) initially indicated that a tsunami could reach the coast of Marin at approximately noon on December 5, but subsequently lifted the order.
In the early stages of large-scale incidents like this, the City of Sausalito depends on the County of Marin
Office of Emergency Management to keep the community informed with consistent messaging in a timely manner. If you haven't already, please take a few moments to sign up for emergency messages via phone, text, or email from
Alert Marin.
Alerts are also posted to the county's Public Emergency Portal at
emergency.marincounty.gov.
When disaster warnings are in effect, please resist the urge to contact the
Sausalito Police Department or other first responders. These agencies will also be getting their information from the county. By tying up staff, your calls and visits could interfere with disaster response preparations.
