At its meeting at 7:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, December 17, the
City Council will elect a mayor and vice mayor by majority vote to serve a one-year term.
The responsibilities of Sausalito's mayor include presiding over Council meetings, acting as a spokesperson for the City, and working with the vice mayor and city manager to set the agendas of forthcoming meetings. The vice mayor assumes the responsibilities of mayor when the mayor is unavailable.
Sausalito's mayor for 2024 was Ian Sobieski. Joan Cox served as vice mayor.
The election of mayor and vice mayor are items 5E and 5F on the agenda for December 17 and will take place after presentations by City Manager Chris Zapata thanking outgoing Councilmember Janelle Kellman, who is running for lieutenant governor in 2026, and outgoing Mayor Sobieski. The swearing-in of newly elected councilmembers will also take place before the mayoral election.
Other items on the
meeting agenda for December 17 include consideration of a resolution authorizing City Manager Chris Zapata to execute a memorandum of understanding as a first step towards transferring the City's sewer collection services to the Sausalito-Marin City Sanitary District.
