City Manager Chris Zapata, residents, and fellow councilmembers celebrated the accomplishments of departing Councilmember
Janelle Kellman and outgoing Mayor
Ian Sobieski at the City Council's final meeting of the year on Tuesday, December 17.
In remarks honoring Councilmember Kellman, Zapata praised her rigorous but kind approach to problem solving and accomplishments that included the "compassionate and successful resolution of the
homeless encampment" while mayor in 2022, leading the charge to create an annual
Sausalito Pride celebration, and her efforts to prepare Sausalito for sea level rise, including securing
$1 million in grant funds from the state for planning and mitigation.
Zapata celebrated Sobieski's term as mayor in 2024 by recounting the City's many accomplishments during the year, which included the formation of a
Downtown Business Improvement District, the nearly finished grant-funded improvement project at the
Sausalito Ferry Landing, the launch of a new
Fix-It App for residents to report infrastructure problems, and the restoration of Sausalito's iconic
sea lion sculpture to its perch on the southern waterfront.
Zapata's presentations and remarks from residents and fellow councilmembers were followed by swearing-in ceremonies for the three councilmembers elected to four-year terms in November 2024: Steven Woodside, Melissa Blaustein, and former Mayor Sobieski.
