Public Meeting on Bridgeway Safety Between Napa and Johnson Streets

Post Date:01/24/2025 10:40 AM
The Public Works Department will host a public meeting in the Edgewater Room of City Hall at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30 to discuss possible safety improvements along Bridgeway between Napa and Johnson streets.

Three Bridgeway intersections on that route — at Napa, Turney, and Locust streets — are among the top 20 intersections with the highest collision rates in all of Marin County, according to the 2018 Marin County Systemic Safety Analysis.

A 2023 study prepared for the City of Sausalito by Parisi Transportation Consulting recommends a phased approach to Bridgeway improvements between Napa and Johnson streets:
  • Phase 1: New pavement markings to reduce confusion for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
  • Phase 2: Improvements to pedestrian safety that include reducing the number of crosswalks, adding refuge islands, and installing "bulb-outs" at corners to make pedestrians waiting to cross more visible.
  • Phase 3: The addition of dedicated bicycle lanes.

The meeting on January 30 will consist of a 30-minute presentation followed by time for questions from the audience. The focus at this time will be on phases 1 and 2. Feedback gathered at the meeting will help inform a draft project plan to be presented to the City Council for approval later in 2025.
