Sausalito's Call A Ride for Sausalito Seniors (CARSS) is celebrating 10 years in operation. The 10 year anniversary event will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1 at Dunphy Park.
The transportation program, managed by Sausalito Village, was created in 2015 by the Age Friendly Sausalito Task Force to address the need for public transportation in the hills and around Sausalito.
The free transportation service combats isolation by providing free rides around town for Sausalito seniors, helping older adults stay connected and involved in the community. In a video created in honor of the program's anniversary event, riders explain how essential CARSS is for their mental health and social lives. CARSS also started offering errand assistance during the pandemic.
"Without CARSS my mental health would be a lot more challenged," CARSS rider Kathleen Watson said in the video. "I need to get out and see what's going on, speak to people my own age, and remember how to have conversations. Without it, I'd be lost."
The celebration on Sunday, June 1 will include cake, drinks, live music, and a special gift for everyone 90 years and older. Learn how to become a rider or volunteer driver on CARSS' website, or call 415-944-5474.
