Tabitha Abbot to Retire on June 18

Post Date:06/13/2025 5:00 PM

On Wednesday, June 18, Tabitha Abbot will retire from a 13.5-year career with the City of Sausalito that began on October 20, 2011, her first day on the job as City Librarian. In 2017, Director of Communications was added to her title, with editorship of the City's weekly e-newsletter, Sausalito Currents, as her primary responsibility.

Accomplishments during her tenure with the City include helping to foster a talented, fun, and supportive team of library staff; cultivating the library's collection of popular and eclectic books and other materials; producing a lot of amazing evening programs; and growing the number of subscribers to Sausalito Currents to over 5,000.

Ms. Abbot publicly came out as a trans woman in September 2024. Her decision to retire reflects her desire to focus on work supporting the trans community in a time of intense politicization of transgender lives. She is grateful to the entire Sausalito community — especially her work colleagues, the library support groups, and the regular users of the library — for making her time with the City such a wonderful experience.

On Saturday, June 21, Ms. Abbot will join Joel Karr, Janelle Kellman, and Paul Mowry for a panel discussion on Sausalito and Queer Identities as part of this year's Sausalito Pride. The 4:30 p.m. panel discussion is one component of a larger Pride and Expression event from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Sausalito Center for the Arts that also features a reception with food and drink, books by and about LGBTQ+ folks, and an exhibition of works by portrait artist Paul Morin.

Best wishes can be sent to tabbot@sausalito.gov.
