Starting on Tuesday, July 15, the Sausalito City Council will hold its regular meetings at an earlier time - 5:00 PM - following the unanimous adoption at its July 1, 2025 City Council meeting. This change is part of a broader effort to enhance government transparency, encourage community participation, and support staff well-being.
Why the Change?
The earlier start time, replacing the previous 7:00 p.m. slot, is designed to address several key areas:
- Efficiency & Productivity: Meetings that start earlier are expected to end at more reasonable hours, leading to sharper focus and less fatigue during decision-making.
- Community Participation: Residents may find it easier to attend after work, before the demands of the evening set in.
- Staff Support: Reducing late-night hours for city employees contributes to improved morale and work-life balance.
- Family-Friendly Scheduling: Families juggling caregiving responsibilities will benefit from meetings that wrap up before typical evening routines.
- Regional Alignment: This move also brings Sausalito in line with other Bay Area cities that schedule meetings between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.
This initiative supports Sausalito’s strategic goals of efficient service delivery and responsive community planning. The City Council encourages the community to continue engaging with its leaders and staff now at a more accessible hour. The City Council hopes this shift will make civic participation easier for all Sausalito residents.
