Special Election To be Held on November 4, 2025

Post Date:08/08/2025 3:00 PM

At the regular City Council Meeting on Tuesday, August 5, the Council called a special Election for Tuesday, November 4, 2025, for residents to vote on two ballot measures, both related to implementation of Sausalito's 2023-2031 Housing Element:

  • Sausalito Commercial District Local Control Measure: a measure to approve the rezoning of 12 opportunity sites in the City’s Amended Housing Element impacted by Ordinance 1022. Ordinance No. 1022 is a local voter initiative passed in 1985, which impacts the ability of the City to rezone properties in the City’s commercial districts.
  • Sausalito MLK Local Control Measure: a measure to approve the rezoning of a two-acre portion of the City-owned Martin Luther King Jr. property, referred to as Site 84 in the City’s Amended Housing ElementOrdinance No. 1128 was adopted by the City Council in lieu of placement on the ballot in 1997, which restricts the City’s ability to change uses on the Martin Luther King Jr. Property without voter approval.

Passage of both measures by the voters is necessary in order for the City to complete the program of rezoning set forth in the City’s Amended 2023-2031 Housing Element, and to maintain the City’s ongoing compliance with State Housing Element law.
