The Rotary Club of Sausalito recently kicked off a year-long fundraising initiative with a successful clean-up and barbecue event at Rotary Village, a 22-unit, below-market-rate senior housing complex on Olima Street. Local organizations including Bay Cities Refuse, Green Thumbs, Sausalito Beautiful, the Sausalito Lions Club, Save Our Sausalito, and residents of both Olima and Bee Street housing units came out for the event.

The clean-up comes at a critical moment, as emergency renovations are now underway to replace aging infrastructure at Rotary Village. A full system replacement is now required, including fixing deteriorating plumbing, replacing water supply lines and heating systems, rebuilding and repainting interior spaces, and repairing existing water damage. The Rotary Housing Corporation will cover the cost of temporary housing for all displaced residents during the renovation. The estimated cost of the project is $800,000. 

The City of Sausalito and City Council have waived permit costs and fees exceeding $30,000 for this project. This support has helped make the renovation possible and reflects a shared vision for protecting vulnerable residents in our community. Rotary Village and the 10 additional senior housing units on Bee Street are the only below-market-rate senior housing in Sausalito. The 32 units were constructed entirely by volunteers and are owned and operated by the Rotary Housing Corporation.

This event marks the beginning of a year-long fundraising effort to complete the renovations and preserve this vital housing resource for Sausalito’s senior community.
