Housing Measures J and K on Your November 2025 Special Election Ballot

Post Date:10/06/2025

(An earlier version of this article was published on August 18, 2025)

On August 5, 2025, the Sausalito City Council voted to place Measure J (Sausalito Commercial District Local Control Measure) and Measure K (Sausalito MLK Local Control Measure) on the November 4, 2025 special election ballot.

If approved by Sausalito voters, both measures would keep Sausalito in compliance with State Housing Element Law, which requires updates to local zoning so the City can accommodate 724 new housing units—including affordable housing—by the state law deadline of January 30, 2026.

Both Measures J and K must pass for Sausalito to remain in compliance with state law and avoid potential fines, litigation, and loss of local control of zoning decisions.

Because of the state deadline, the City Council unanimously called for this special election so voters can decide before January 2026.

If your civic organization would like a city representative to attend a meeting to explain Measures J and K and the upcoming Special Municipal Election, please contact the City at (415) 289-4132 or cdd@sausalito.gov.
