Garage Fire Contained at 83 George Lane — Quick Work Prevents Spread to Home

Post Date:09/05/2025 3:00 PM
On Tuesday, September 2, at approximately 12:24 a.m., Southern Marin Fire District crews were dispatched to a working garage fire on George Lane. Firefighters encountered advanced conditions in a detached garage and brought the incident under control within 33 minutes of dispatch, preventing extension to the primary residence.

A total of 13 apparatus and 29 personnel responded. One unit will remain for fire watch while investigators begin a cause-and-origin analysis. All residents and their pets evacuated safely with assistance from fire personnel.

Partner agencies included Marin County Fire Department, Tiburon Fire Department, Central Marin Fire Department, Sausalito Police Department, and PG&E.

With heightened fire weather, the District urges the public to help prevent fires by following property safety tips:
  • Store combustible liquids like oils, gasoline, paints, propane, and varnishes in the approved, appropriate containers, preferably in a shed away from the home.
  • Do not overload circuits.
  • Avoid clutter or debris in your garage, as it can be flammable and fuel fires.
  • Use electrical tools with caution.
  • Do not use grills or generators in the garage.

For emergencies, dial 9-1-1. Crews are fully staffed, prepared, and standing by. Learn more about the fire response on SMFD's website.
