The Chili Cook-Off is Tomorrow: How to Attend Like a Pro

Post Date:09/19/2025

The Chili Cook-Off in Dunphy Park is tomorrow, on Saturday, September 20! The annual event has enjoyed 46 successful years as one of Sausalito's most creative and fun events. This year's theme is "Hollywood."

Tasting wristbands are $30 and can be purchased online, or in person at the event. Wristbands purchased online can be picked up at will call starting at 11:30 a.m. Each wristband holder must be present to collect their ticket and sign a waiver.

Tasting begins at noon, and the event wraps up at 4:00 p.m. Chili teams will dish out sample cups in pursuit of the People's Choice, Best Booth, and Judges' Choice awards. Contestants in each category have the chance to win awards and gift cards from Mollie Stone's.

The highly entertaining Hot Pepper Eating Contest will begin at 1:00 p.m., with ten competitors striving to make it through rounds of increasingly hot peppers.

Rettew & Taylor will kick off the live music with a set at noon, followed by Jack Justice Band at 2:00 p.m.

Here are some other tips for making the most of this year's event:

  • The weather is expected to be mostly sunny, with highs in the low 70s. Don't forget sunscreen!

  • Expect parking to be limited near Dunphy Park. Check out the City's municipal lots for additional options.

  • Drinks will be available for purchase, including wine, beer, and margaritas.
  • There will be no food vendors at the event, so bring snacks or a meal if needed.

  • Bring a blanket or foldable chairs to sit on the grass.

  • Stay hydrated — bring a refillable water bottle!

  • Dogs are encouraged to stay home. If you must bring one, it must be leashed.

  • Sustainability tip: Bring your own spoon or reuse one of the compostable ones available at the event!
