All sewer services in Sausalito will now be provided by the Sausalito Marin City Sanitary District (SMCSD). These services include connection, collection system, sewer system issues, billing and treatment. After unanimous votes by the Sausalito City Council and SMCSD, the transfer became effective August 22, 2025. This longtime initiative will create a one-stop-shop for sewer service customers via SMCSD. 

In addition to streamlining the sewer service, the transfer saved Sausalito ratepayers over $1.9 million in interest costs. This savings is due to the City's use of existing sewer rate revenue to pay off sewer bonds and an outstanding loan with the State of California early.
