What the Measures Proposed:

  • Measure J sought to adjust zoning in certain commercial and mixed-use districts, allowing for limited residential development to help Sausalito comply with the state’s Housing Element law, which requires space for 724 new housing units.
  • Measure K focused on Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) campus site, proposing up to 50 affordable senior housing units on a portion of city-owned land while maintaining existing school, recreation, and parking uses on the rest of the property.

Together, the measures aimed to balance state mandates with the community’s desire to preserve Sausalito’s small-town character, and manage growth responsibly.
