The Sausalito Police Department recently held its annual awards ceremony. Below are this year's recipients:

Employee of the Year: Detective Bryce Mitchell was named Employee of the Year for his outstanding performance, leadership, and ability to balance numerous responsibilities. He excelled in a demanding hybrid detective–patrol role while fulfilling patrol, Field Training Officer, and Officer-in-Charge duties, consistently demonstrating strong investigative skills, sound judgment, and effective problem-solving. He also contributed significantly as a Defensive Tactics and Use of Force Instructor, helping train and develop department personnel. His professionalism, initiative, and high-quality work set a standard for his peers, exemplifying the department’s standard of service.

Mark Thomas Award: Parking Enforcement Officer Peter Flores is the recipient of the Captain Mark Thomas Award for his professionalism, reliability, integrity, and willingness to support both coworkers and the community. Chosen by his peers, the award reflects the trust, respect, and teamwork he consistently demonstrates through his positive attitude, strong work ethic, and dedication to excellence.

Superior Service Award: Juline Beier is recognized for 25 years of dedicated volunteer service to the Sausalito Police Department, having contributed several years before the official Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) program started. Her long-standing commitment, professionalism, and generosity — both through her official duties and personal acts of kindness — have greatly benefited the department, the community, and her fellow volunteers, leaving a lasting legacy that inspires future generations.

Superior Service Award: Mike McKinley is recognized for his exceptional dedication and leadership in emergency preparedness and management, having played a critical role in strengthening the City of Sausalito’s readiness since 2012. As Emergency Services Coordinator, he oversees the City’s Emergency Operations Center, training, exercises, and emergency response and recovery planning, while coordinating closely with regional partners. Widely regarded as the City’s subject matter expert, his expertise, persistence, and commitment have significantly enhanced Sausalito’s emergency preparedness and operational capabilities.

Superior Service Award: Sergeant Edgar Padilla is recognized for his extraordinary compassion and empathy in supporting a grieving family. His heartfelt care — offering comfort, spending hours consoling the family, coordinating support, and remaining present throughout memorial events — demonstrates his deep kindness and selflessness, exemplifying the highest values of the department.
