The Board of Directors of the Southern Marin Fire Protection District announced on Thursday, February 26 that Fire Chief Christian Tubbs will retire effective July 1, 2026, concluding more than 47 years of distinguished service in the fire profession.
Chief Tubbs formally submitted his resignation to the Board this week.
Chief Tubbs has served as Fire Chief of Southern Marin Fire for more than eleven years, guiding the District through a period of strategic growth, strengthened regional partnerships, enhanced risk reduction initiatives, and long-term financial stability. Under his leadership, the District has reinforced its commitment to service excellence, transparency, and collaboration across Marin County and beyond.
“Chief Tubbs’ leadership has positioned Southern Marin Fire as a strong, forward-focused organization,” said Board President Cliff Waldeck. “His dedication to our community, to our firefighters and staff, and to the broader fire service profession has been exemplary.”
Throughout his decades-long career, Chief Tubbs has demonstrated a deep commitment not only to operational excellence but also to continuous learning and professional development. His work has extended beyond the District, contributing to the advancement of best practices and leadership development within the fire service community across the nation.
The Board will initiate an open and competitive recruitment process to select the District’s next Fire Chief. The process will focus on ensuring a smooth and orderly transition that maintains operational continuity and organizational stability.
Chief Tubbs will continue to serve through the end of June and has committed to supporting the Board throughout the transition process.
